Although Venice does not have many museums because most of the great artworks can be found in the churches; their quality is really stunning
Below a list of the many museums that are open to the public. You will find the opening hours and additional information:
Gallerie dell’Accademia
The Accademia in Venice is one of the most prestigious museums in Italy. There are the best artworks of Benelli, Tiziano, Giorgione, Tintoretto, Veronese, Tiepolo and others.
It’s open from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. but Sundays and Mondays closed at 2 p.m. It is closed on December 25th, January 1st and May 1st.
Galleria Franchetti - Ca’ d’Oro
In the past Ca’ d’Oro was considered as one of the most luxurious buildings of Venice but it went through a period of several and unfortunate restorations; until the late nineteenth century, when Baron Giorgio Franchetti bought it and turned it into an art gallery. Nowadays you can find Magenta and Diana and Carpaccio’s artworks.
It’s open from Monday to Sunday 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Archeologico Nazionale Museum
Arqheologico Nazionale Museum is located in Piazza San Marco and it features a Collection of Greek-Roman antiquity.
It’s open every day from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Palazzo Ducale
It was built with materials imported from the republics of Venice. It conserves a thousand years of history; and was the center of executive and legal power as it witnessed “the Maggior Consiglio room”, “the Senato room” and “the Collegio room”. It is possible to see famous paintings from Tintoretto, Tiziano and Veronese; you can also visit the older prisons where Casanova lived for years before he escaped.
It’s open every day. From November 1st to March 31st.is opens from 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and From April 1st to October 31st opens from 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. it’s closed on December 25th and January 1st.
Correr Museum
Correr museum is dedicated to Venice, politics and military history and art; you can take a tour through la Napolecia and Procuratie Nuove rooms.
It is open every day, from November 1st to March 31st. it is opens 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and From April 1st to October 31st opens from 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. and it’s closed on December 25th and January 1st.
Palazzo Mocenigo
Palazzo Mocenigo is the center of a collection of dresses and accessories, fabrics, books and figurines.
Open 8:30am-1:30pm from Monday to Thursday.
Museo di Storia Naturale - Fondaco dei Turchi
If you want to understand human evolution since the creation of species, this museum is for you. There is an entire dinosaur skeleton.
It is temporally closed for restoration.
Museo Storico Navale
You can find a copy of Bucintoro, the most important ship in Venetian Navy, some gondolas and many old treasure of Venetian Navy.
It is open during weekdays, 8:30am-1:30pm.
Marciano Museum
Marciano museum saves the original copy of the bronze horses that were once outside the basilica of San Marco and the blanket made by Paolo Veneziano in the fourteenth century, covering the golden shovel on weekdays.
It’s opened from November 1st to March 31st every day 10:00a.m.-5:30p.m and from April 1st to October 31st 9:00a.m.-7:00p.m.it’s closed on December 25th and January 1st.
Basilica de San Marco
This is considered as a symbol in Venice, it has 2 square kilometers of beautiful mosaics and it also has treasures like the Pala D’Oro, beautiful crystal and liturgical vestments.
It is opened during weekdays 10:00a.m-5:00p.m. and weekend 1:00p.m-5:00p.m.
