The Duomo of Milan
The Duomo is located in the center of Piazza del Duomo. It is one of the best and most remarkable attractions in Milan and Italy. This cathedral, which has an extraordinary mixture of styles, is one of the largest churches in the world. Comparing the exterior and interior, the latter is lofty and gloomy. A trip to the Duomo's roof is an excellent experience; once being there, one gets an extraordinary view; of course, there is a fee one has to pay for visiting it, but it’s worth it.
The entrance to The Duomo is free, because after all it is a church and one has to dress appropriately to visit it. The Metro station is close to the cathedral, right in front of it, and it has the same name “Duomo” (Metro lines 1 and 3).
Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Milan
It is really a wonderful place to walk by, go shopping and have dinner. This elegant glass-topped shopping mall, built in 1870, is located on Piazza del Duomo. The ingenious designer of this amazing place was the artist Giuseppe Mengoni. One of the most impressive things about this building is its arc-shaped entrance and its floors made from marble with mosaic tiles.
There are luxurious and good restaurants, cafes and shops inside the gallery. Shops sell jewelry, silverware, books, souvenirs, paintings and more. Just to mentions some examples, luxurious brands such as Prada and Louis Vuitton are presented in the Galleria, you can also find Gucci, Fendi and others high street brand names. This place is close to the Duomo Cathedral, so people have two really nice places to visit when they are in the center of Milan.
Santa Maria della Grazie Church, Milan
It is a church in Milan and a monastery, located north of Italy. This church is famous because inside it there is one of the most famous paintings around the world that is the mural painted by Leonardo da Vinci called “The Last Supper”. This famous painting is the most important attraction in the church though the church has itself own particular attractions such as a fine dome and a beautiful cloister.
To see “The Last Supper”, it is necessary to book tickets in advance, otherwise it won’t be possible to see this famous painting, so make a reservation in advance or contact your travel agency. People, who make their reservation and enjoy this artwork, are not allowed to take pictures to the famous painting.
The Castello Sforzesco was built by Francesco Sforza in the 15th century. This castle was very appreciated and valued by the Sforza family, but after its abandonment, it nearly became demolished. Fortunately at the turn of the century the plan of demolishing this castle failed, and it was restored by Luigi Beltrami.
Currently, there is a fine arts collection there. The beautiful collection showed in this place includes those from different museums, such as of the Museum of Musical Instruments, the Museum of Antique Art and of the Picture Gallery.
