Verona Travel Guide

Casa di Giulietta and San Fermo

The house dates back from 13th century and it was occupied for many years by dell Capello family. It’s believed that this could be Juliet’s house because it is quite similar to Capuleti’s house in Shakespeare’s tragedy. Coat-of-arms are exhibited in the courtyard.

Juliet’s balcony can be seen from the courtyard; it’s supposed to be there where the lovers had their first romantic dialogue. This passionate tragedy is marked by the unhappy love between Juliet and Romeo. Nowadays many young ladies see a balcony as a romantic symbol.

You can visit the small museum in Juliet’s house where articles that date back to the 16th and 17th centuries are exhibited. Paintings, ceramics, frescoes and antiques that probably belonged to Capuleti family members are presented there.

The perfect time to visit Juliet’s house is in the mornings and afternoons. You don’t need to pay to visit the courtyard but there is a fee if you want to access the house. The house is open until 7:30 pm and on Mondays it is open only in the afternoon.

You can go on foot to Via del Pontiere and visit La Tomba di Giulietta which is near the house in the San Francesco al Corso cloister. You should visit this place; the love is in the air in this house.
