Schools in Italy
The Educational System in Italy is constituted by levels, which are developed in accordance with the principles, goals and the targets of education. The main objective of Italian education is to achieve integral development for children.
Italy offers free education for all children regardless of their nationalities. Children must attend school from age six until age sixteen, education is obligatory until age fourteen.
The first level of Italian education is "Scuola elementare" or primary School, which children start at the age of six, this level ends five years after.
The second level is "scuola media" or "scuola secondaria di 1 grado", secondary school, level one, it lasts until the student turns fourteen years old.
The next level is called "scuola secondaria superior" or "liceo", before getting into this level, students must pass an exam. This level is called higher secondary school because at this level, students must choose a specific area of their preference and make a choice about which higher secondary school they will attend for the next five years.
Generally, schools in Italy have a great reputation but they tend to focus in responsibility and discipline over creativity.
