Insurance in Italy

In life we are exposed to many situations that may adversely affect our health, our possessions or even deprive us of life. This involves also an economic cost, which most of the time is very high. That is why you may want to purchase insurance to cover the damage, at least in terms of expenditure is concerned.

What is an insurance?

Insurance is a contract established with insurances companies. The contract is called "Policy", and the company agrees that if the person who purchased the insurance gets injured (illness or injury or even death), or some of his/her assets (car, business, workshop or house) due to any circumstances (theft, fire, earthquake), then he/she (or his / her designated as beneficiary) will receive the money agreed on the policy.
This money is called "indemnity. "

Parties involved in the insurance contract.
  • Insurer: Is the person providing the insurance service, and that assumes the obligation to pay compensation when the insured event occurs.
  • The insured: Is the title holder of the insurance interest that he is exposed to risk.
  • The Client: The client of the insurer, the person signing the policy and paying for the service (premium).
  • The Beneficiary: The person receiving the payment from the insurance company is the owner of the indemnification rights.

Types of Insurance

Home insurance
If you purchased a new house you have to know there are other many responsibilities associated that need to be assumed. When we speak about the services that our new home includes we have to be conscious that in some cases they can be dangerous such as gas, water and electricity. A small problem with some of them can lead to a bigger problem for example:  flooding, fires or an explosion. Home insurance can cover both the damages that may arise in our home as well as the ones that may affect the neighbors.

Car Insurance
Car Insurance: Covers damage or loss resulting from the use of motor vehicles. Basically protects self-harm as a result of vehicle collision or rollover, fire, theft and glass breakage. It also covers civil liability, or damage to third parties.

Life Insurance
When someone wants to protect his/her family it is important to consider buying life insurance, in case the insured dies; it is an insurance contract by which the insurer, in exchange for a premium which may be unique, annual or periodic (quarterly or half yearly) is obliged to meet the person signing the policy, or the person that the subscriber designates a capital or income, at death or reach a certain age.

Travel Insurance
Nobody is safe of mishaps or inconveniences during a trip or on the road, there are unusual circumstances that shake someone´s tranquility for example the need of medical care, an emergency evacuation or, in other cases, the bankruptcy of the travel organizer. For these reasons it is important to purchase travel insurance. When we decide to travel to another place we dream of having a good and relaxing time, not in trouble.

Health Insurance
The health system in Italy works on the principle that health care is a fundamental right of all citizens and that whoever is registered in the National Social Service (SSN) is entitled to receive free treatment of high quality. The best time to purchase health insurance is before you have a health problem, for example nobody is safe from having an accident, and neither can we predict someone will suffer a serious illness or if a woman gets pregnant.
