Nightlife in Padua

As a university city, Padua has a large, very visible student population, so this cause creates a young, vibrant atmosphere and the city has undoubtedly the best nightlife within reach of Padua. As a result, more and more people use Padua as a base from which to make day-trips to its overcrowded neighbour. Padua is home to a very large school, the University of Padua, which is one of the oldest and most well known universities in Europe. Knowing this, it won't come as a surprise that many of the nightlife venues (such as bars and discos) in Padua are directed towards this group of people.

For tourists who are not interested to blaring music and dancing as their preferred form of nightlife entertainment, there are many other things to make during the evening hours. For example, there are places to go for an evening filled with classical music. The Tourist Office in Padua has information on schedules and locations of the concerts.

There is also a theatre in Padua which offers operas and other interpretations. Information on these events is also available form the Padua Tourist Office. There are many excellent restaurants in town that can serve as a way of nightlife and entertainment. A late meal can be followed by a visit to a local Irish pub or even a movie at the local movie theatre.

Some interesting places to know:

Extra Extra, via Ciamician, 145. Padova's flashiest disco. Buzzing after 2am from Thursday to Saturday, dead the rest of the time. If you can't get a taxi, it's an inadvisable thirty-minute walk back to the centre by way of via Sório.

Joyce's Irish Pub, Riviera S. Benedetto 154. Irish pubs are all the rage in Italy and this one is particularly popular; head west of Piazza Duomo down via Vescovado and the pub is just across an attractive part of the canal. Open until 2am. Closed Sun.

Limbo, via San Fermo, just south of Piazza Petrarca. Another popular disco-pub. Open until 3am. Closed Sun.

Victoria Pub, via Savonarola, off Piazza Petrarca. Ghastly underground fake English pub (to complete the UK selection), but it really pulls in the punters, and at least it doesn't shut at 11pm. Open until 2am. Closed Sun.
